Childhood cancer is the number one disease killer of children in the United States.

Joshua Chambers, 5, was the inspiration behind Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer proclaiming September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Joshua was diagnosed with high-risk leukemia in February 2013.

While Joshua was in remission, he took a page out of the ALS playbook and issued a new challenge to the mayor.

“To raise money and awareness related to childhood cancer,” Dyer said. “They are starting an effort to put a pie in your face and I agreed with Joshua that I would be one of his subjects.”

Joshua's father said he's proud Dyer encourages community leaders, business owners and everyone to find a way to get involved in the fight against pediatric cancer.
