Two new highway ramps are now open, part of a massive project connecting the Central Florida GreeneWay and the Florida Turnpike.

The new ramps are the first-ever connections between the toll roads and will be a big time saver for drivers, shortening the drive considerably from south Orange and Osceola counties to the area of Lake Nona, Medical City and Orlando International Airport.

The ramps connect GreeneWay southbound to the Turnpike southbound and the northbound Turnpike to GreeneWay northbound.

Before the ramps were opened, drivers were forced to use local roads to access Florida’s Turnpike from the GreeneWay. The new ramps will make it easier and more convenient for drivers to travel between the two expressways. Crews worked throughout the night to open the ramps in time for Monday morning’s rush.

While the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) has completed its portion of the work by opening the two ramps, the Turnpike is working to open six other ramps, covering directions like the GreeneWay south to the Turnpike north. Since CFX and the Turnpike share the roadway system, they decided to split the work and the cost.

The remaining work being done by the Turnpike and will include creating full interchanges. Right now, these are just partial interchanges between the two roadways.
