The group that has been trying to stop Florida's upcoming statewide bear hunt is not giving up without a fight.

Speak Up Wekiva has now appealed a judge's recent ruling to allow the hunt to go on as scheduled.

Members of the Seminole County group went to Tallahassee last week to try to convince the judge to stop the hunt, claiming it's unconstitutional and there is no way for wildlife officials to truly enforce the rules of the hunt.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said a hunt is necessary to help manage the growing black bear population.

FWC says they are not certain how much bear hunting will minimize human-bear conflicts. There have been several attacks on people and pets throughout the state.

Just this week, a bear attacked a man Orange City, in Volusia County. The man only received minor injuries, but his small dog was killed.

Wildlife officials in Volusia County said they are stepping up their efforts to try and catch the bear responsible for Monday's attack, and they set up a third trap in the area Thursday afternoon.

Florida's statewide bear hunt is scheduled to begin Saturday, Oct. 24.
