A Good Samaritan who was helping another motorist involved in an unrelated crash was struck and killed by a vehicle on Thanksgiving in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Adrian Arnando Pachas, 42, of Ocala, was a passenger in a vehicle that was heading east on County Road 484 around 7:45 p.m.

There was a previous, unrelated crash on the same road near the intersection with Southeast 36th Avenue, troopers said.

The vehicle that Pachas was in had stopped, and the man exited the vehicle to help the occupants of the previous crash.

A 20-year-old man driving a GMC Canyon was heading east in the outside lane, and the right front of the vehicle struck Pachas.

Pachas was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where he later died, troopers said.

The driver of the GMC was cooperating with the investigation and provided a voluntary blood sample to be tested for the presence of drugs and alcohol content at the time of the crash, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
