A divided Florida House passed a new map for the state's 40 Senate districts.

The House passed the map Tuesday by a 73-47 vote. The vote was largely along party lines, with Democrats voting against the proposal.

The Republican-controlled Florida Legislature has until this Friday to agree on a new Senate map. This is the third special session of the year.

The map passed by the House differs from a version approved last week by the Senate. But Rep. Jose Oliva predicted that the Senate will accept the proposal.

Legislators were forced to draw new Senate districts because the Senate admitted earlier this year that senators had violated the state constitution while drawing up the current districts.

Voters in 2010 passed an amendment that says districts cannot be drawn to help incumbents or a member of a political party.
