A Florida House subcommittee approved a bill to let grandparents petition the courts for visitation rights to their grandchildren.

The new bill would allow grandparents to petition the court for visitation rights if one or more parents is dead, missing or in a permanent vegetative state.

The parents of missing Orlando woman Michelle Parker are behind the push.

Parker disappeared in 2011. He twin children are now with their father, ex-fiance Dale Smith. Smith has moved out of the state.

Parker's parents say Smith will not let them see the twins. The case has been the subject of numerous lawsuits, especially since the parents insist Smith know something about Parker's disappearance.
