A GPS satellite for the U.S. Air Force is scheduled to launch this afternoon from the Space Coast.

The satellite is expected to improve navigation for the GPS devices we use, along with military systems.

The GPS IIF is the ninth in a series of 12 next generation GPS satellites.

Last year alone, United Launch Alliance launched four of these next gen satellites.

There will be two more of these satellites launched this year and then the final one in the series will launch next year.

Boeing built the satellites and says they wiill provide greater navigational accuracy and a new signal to aid in commercial aviation and search and rescue operations. They will also help the military to better resist frequency jamming in warzones.

The launch window opens at 2:36 p.m.

Right now there’s an 80 percent chance of favorable weather conditions at the time of launch

We will be carrying the launch live. If you are away from your television, you can catch it on the BHTV app available for IOS, Android and Kindle Fire HD.
