The incident involving a gyrocopter piloted by a Tampa-area mailman that landed on the U.S. Capitol lawn could lead to congressional hearings about Capitol security.

Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, who chairs the House Committee on Homeland Security, said he is considering the hearings.

Video from the Tampa Bay Times showed Doug Hughes' small aircraft flying past the Washington Monument on its way down to the Capitol lawn.

Hughes, from Ruskin, said he did it in protest of campaign finance reform. He claimed authorities knew about his plans, but they didn't stop him.

Hughes was charged with violating restricted airspace and operating an unregistered aircraft.

He was released from police custody Thursday, but faces up to four years in prison if convicted.

Once Hughes arrives in Ruskin, he will be under house arrest, as part of the terms of his release. He could return to Florida sometime Saturday, and he has a meeting with his probation officer on Monday.
