It was an out of this world Earth Day on the Space Coast Wednesday as the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex hosted its largest Earth Day Celebration yet, with more than 50 exhibits and displays.

The famous rocket garden is now home to a butterfly garden, planted by employees at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.

NASA also showed off some of its alternative fuel vehicles for guests to check out.

The Visitor Complex itself is going green and is working on converting their tour buses to a more Earth friendly alternative.

“We actually purchased a compressed natural gas bus and we’re doing a prototype which is going to be assessed and we’re looking at hydrogen and some other possible fuels as well,” said Therrin Protze from the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

The Visitor Complex hopes to replace its entire fleet within 18 to 24 months.
