The redesigned and renovated Emergency Department at Orlando Regional Medical Center opened for patients Monday.

The hospital held a ribbon cutting ceremony last Wednesday.

The 18,000-square-foot addition includes 13 new patient rooms designated for patients with less severe injuries or conditions like flu or sprained ankles.

Hospital officials expect with the addition of the room, less ill or injured patients will be treated and discharged sooner.

Level one trauma care, comprehensive stroke care and treatment for other critical and more serious injuries and conditions will be provided in existing patient rooms.
