AT&T said it is hiring for 55 new jobs in Marion County.

The new positions are based in the Ocala call center.

AT&T said it's adding more than 170 new employees across Florida, including 135 brand new positions.

"AT&T continues to expand its customer base in Ocala and invest in our network to provide the high level of service customers expect," said Joe York, president of AT&T Florida. "We're pleased to welcome 55 Ocala residents to the AT&T family who will help us deliver on our commitment to customer service."

This year alone, the company has hired nearly 700 employees in Florida.

"Florida businesses and consumers are using more wireless services and high-speed Internet to stay connected to the people and information they care about," said Kevin T. Sheilley, president and CEO of the Ocala/Marion County Chamber and Economic Partnership. "These jobs will provide opportunities for our citizens and help boost the economy in one of the fastest-growing parts of Florida."
