A man was killed after a fire broke out overnight at what crews that was an abandoned house in Titusville, officials said.

Titusville Fire and Emergency Services crews responded around 3:20 a.m. to a report of a structure fire at 19 N. Park Ave., located just behind the Sunoco gas station on Garden Street.

Crews were told the house was vacant and has been abandoned for years. A 911 caller said flames were high in the air above the Sunoco gas station with crews reporting a glow while responding several blocks away from the location.

The structure was about 50 percent involved when crews arrived to the scene.

Crews noted the house appeared to be vacant when they walked around the structure, stating the windows and the front door were boarded up.

When the crews were able to knock down the flames and pull the boards from the windows, they located an adult male inside the home.

The blaze was extinguished by 3:34 a.m.

No one else was found inside the home, officials said. Police said the man's identity will likely be released later Tuesday after out-of-town relatives are notified.

The State Fire Marshal's Office has been called in to investigate the fire. Titusville police said the incident is an active death investigation.

Anyone with information on the fire is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
