A fire was reported Wednesday aboard Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas while on a cruise that departed from Port Canaveral three days earlier, but officials said it was quickly extinguished.
Miami-based Royal Caribbean International said in a statement that the fire broke out Wednesday in a mechanical area aboard the ship as it arrived in Falmouth, Jamaica.
The company said onboard fire suppression equipment put out the fire. One crewmember was treated for a first-degree burn; no other injuries were reported and all passengers and crew are accounted for according to the cruise line.
The 1,112-foot Freedom of the Seas is on a seven-night cruise that left Port Canaveral on Sunday. The company did not say immediately whether the cruise would continue.
Passengers were told to go to evacuation assembly stations out of what Royal Caribbean called an abundance of caution. The company said the ship has since docked in Falmouth, and all systems were operating normally.
News 13 spoke to other cruise ship passengers at Port Canaveral, Wednesday who said they were surprised to hear about the fire on board the Freedom of the Seas.
They tell us they feel safe if an emergency happens on their ship.
"First thing we did was the mustering, life jackets, talk about safety. Fire, and they said the number one issue on the ship is fire. So hopefully they are doing the proper precautions," said cruise ship passenger Jeff Van Dyke.
"I think they are well organized, they know what the dangers are. I feel quite safe on this ship," said cruise ship passenger Tyler Corneau.

Royal Caribbean International issued the following statement Wednesday:
On July 22, 2015, Freedom of the Seas experienced a fire in a mechanical space as the ship was pulling into Falmouth, Jamaica. The ship's fire suppression system was immediately activated, which contained and extinguished the fire.
In an abundance of caution, the Captain mustered all guests at their assembly stations. All guests have been accounted for and there are no reported injuries.
The ship is currently alongside in Falmouth and all systems are functioning.
Freedom of the Seas is currently on a seven-night sailing that departed Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Sunday, July 19, and includes port calls to Labadee, Haiti; Falmouth, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Mexico.
