Fireworks lit up the night sky in St. Petersburg Saturday. Hundreds gathered off Beach Drive and along the bay, and many came dressed for the celebration.

"Because we're proud to be an American today. We're celebrating," said Jackie Hickenbottom, who was wearing red, white and blue from head to toe.

Earlier in the evening rough weather rolled in causing fireworks delays across the bay. Still, people had a good time as music filled the air in Vinoy Park.

Families enjoyed a dance contest and other events hosted by the Tampa Bay Rays.

In Clearwater, people picked out their fireworks viewing spots hours in advance.

"I just love it out here because of the big booms, and I record the fireworks, and put it on Facebook so everybody can see it," said Betty Locke.

Locke and her family had set up on blankets four hours before the scheduled fireworks.

Coachman Park was lined with vendors cooking up good food, and those excited to wrap up the night with the colors and sounds of the Fourth of July.
