A three alarm fire early Sunday morning destroyed an abandoned historic Palmetto Beach cigar factory.

The fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. at the vacant building located at 201 N 26th Street.

The fire damaged the first, second, and third floors causing all four sides to collapse.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control at 2:12 a.m.

Investigators say although the building is vacant it is unknown if anyone was inside at the time of the fire.

The building is considered a total loss with an estimated value of $284,000.

The State Fire Marshal’s office is working to determine how the fire started.
