Two Lake County doctors are showing they have the drive to raise awareness about men's health.

"Over 80 percent of the guys knew all the details about their first car, but less than half of them could remember who their primary care doctor was or when the last time they went to see their doctor was," Dr. Sijo Parekattil said.

Utilizing his electric Tesla, Parekattil and Dr. Jamin Brahmbhatt launched a cross-country effort to drive home a serious point.

"If you look at the top 10 causes of death in America, men are likely to die of nine of the top 10 causes," Brahmbhatt said. "That is ridiculous."

The urologists logged more than 6,000 miles in 10 days. They stopped every 150 miles or so to recharge and raise awareness.

"Each location, we're promoting the physicians in that area and the idea is to get all the physicians and health care entities to kind of collaborate and make this an annual event so we just get guys to do a double take and make that appointment to go see them," Parekattil said.

Between appearances and live streaming, the adventure captured plenty of attention.

"We reached out to over 400 million individuals throughout our various social media, online and TV and print campaigns," Brahmbhatt said.

With such an outpouring of response, another trip for next year is already in the planning stages. That will be 10 more days to drive for men's health

Now it's up to men to take action.

"If this gets just one guy to pick up the phone and make that appointment to see their doctor, then we've achieved our goal," Parekattil said.

The doctors were followed by a team in a motorhome so they could rest while travelling from Clermont to Los Angeles.
