The first nonstop flights between Orlando and the Persian Gulf will be taking off Tuesday as Emirates airline begins direct service to Dubai.

Emirates is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Orlando International Airport already boasts many nonstop routes, but this new flight has added significance: It will make Orlando the 10th destination for Emirates, which will effectively open the door to the Middle East.

Orlando is both a top tourist destination and a hub for business travelers. Orlando had more travelers last year than New York City.

Emirates will fly one daily, roundtrip flight using a 266-seat Boeing 777. It will be the first airline to offer regularly scheduled service between Orlando and the Persian Gulf region.

The airline showed off its Airbus A-380 on Tuesday when it landed at Orlando International Airport. The massive aircraft is currently the largest passenger aircraft and features a host of amenities, including private suites, shower spas and an onboard cocktail lounge.

In honor of the inaugural flight, Emirates put on a celebratory water cannon salute and gave tours of the aircraft.

Emirates, however, is also embroiled in controversy after being named in the Open Skies dispute. A group of United States-based airlines, like Delta, United Airlines and American Airlines, claim that Persian Gulf-based carriers have gotten billions of dollars in subsidies from their governments and are not playing fair by artificially lowering their rates.

Emirates has recently addressed the allegations by calling them a "political play."
