Sunday is the deadline for uninsured individuals and families to get health care coverage through the Affordable Care Act for 2016.

Consumers have until midnight to sign up at HealthCare.gov or they must wait until the next open-enrollment period later this year and face a penalty.

Federal officials warn that there will be no extensions or “special enrollment” periods this time around.

Individuals not enrolled for coverage face a penalty of $695 for adults and $347.50 for children, or two percent of their household income, whichever is greater.

More than eight million plans have been selected since open enrollment began, federal official said. Of that number, more than one and a half million were from Florida.

Coverage begins in March for those who sign up by the deadline.
