In response to possible flooding from Hurricane Matthew, counties in Central Florida have begun offering free sandbags.

Brevard County

Melbourne

Sandbags are available for City of Melbourne residents today. They will be distributed as long as weather permits or until bags run out. Up to 10 bags per vehicle will be provided to those with proof that they reside within the city limits of Melbourne.

The location is the large parking area in front of Club 52/Melbourne Greyhound Park at 1100 N. Wickham Rd., Melbourne.

Cocoa

  • 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Brevard Sheriff’s Office Farm, 2955 Pluckebaum Rd., Cocoa. There's a limit of 10 sandbags per vehicle. The bags will be filled and loaded into vehicles by supervised inmate work crews.
  • 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Mitchell Ellington Park, 575 Hall Rd., Merritt Island. There's a 10-bag limit per visit. 

Only sand will be provided at the following locations. Must bring shovel and bags.

  • Cocoa North, S.R. 524 and London Boulevard behind the lift station
  • Diamond Square, Railroad and D Street
  • Public Works facility, back entrance on School Street

Flagler County

In preparation for Hurricane Matthew, Palm Coast has sand and sandbags available for residents at several locations. Sand stations are self-serve. Residents should bring shovels and be prepared to fill the bags.

Sandbags will be available until 7 p.m. Tuesday, from 7 a.m. — 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Each household is allowed 10 sandbags. Shovels and bags available.

Residents should check their street signs to know where to pick up sandbags.

Orlando

If your street sign has a fountain logo, you are a city of Orlando resident and can pick up sandbags from Orlando Streets and Stormwater Division at 1010 Woods Ave. Residents must show proof of residence.

Seminole County

The Seminole County Office of Emergency Management has activated the Emergency Operations Center ahead of Hurricane Matthew. Below is a list of sandbag operations:

Altamonte Springs

Residents will be able to pick up sandbags now through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to dusk. Sandbag sites are self-service. Bring a shovel

UPDATED Wednesday, Oct. 5, 7:21 p.m.: After distributing more than 2,000 bags for sand, the City of Casselberry has no more bags. Residents who still need sandbags are directed to the following location between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. There is a 30-bag limit and residents must bring their own shovel.

Lake Mary

Longwood

Residents can pick up sandbags from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. now through Thursday. Only available to Longwood residents. There is a 10-bag limit. Must bring shovel and photo ID.

Oviedo

Sandbags available Tuesday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents allowed to fill up 12 bags. Bring shovel and photo ID. Only available to Oviedo residents.

Sanford

Residents can pick up sandbags from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through the rest of the week:

Check back. There are no current plans to open sandbag operations, according to officials.

Volusia County

Daytona Beach

Sandbags are available 24 hours a day until further notice; there is a limit of 10 bags per vehicle.

9 a.m. — 5 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. — 3 p.m. Thursday. Residents should bring a shovel and be prepared to fill their own bags. There is a limit of 10 bags per household. ID required.

Deltona

From 9 a.m. — 4 p.m. Wednesday. Residents can pick up 12 filled sandbags and 12 empty bags that they can fill at home.

Edgewater

"Schedules will resume as weather and road conditions allow. Please do not do any additional tree trimming. City crews are working diligently to pick up all yard waste but trimming now could mean your waste will not be picked up and could become a dangerous projectile during the storm. Additionally, do not place yard waste is stormwater conveyance areas such as swales or ditches," stated the City of Edgewater.

Wednesday: Normal yard waste pick up is scheduled
Thursday: Normal scheduled household garbage pick-up will occur
Friday: Household garbage and recycling will be suspended

Sand is available at the following locations. Sandbags available starting at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fire Station No. 57. Limit 15 per household.
