Almost a dozen hostages are out of a credit union in Jacksonville who were being held by a suspected robber taken into custody, deputies said.

  • 11 hostages 'out' of Jacksonville credit union, deputies say
  • Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said person in custody
  • Unconfirmed report of someone shot, spokeswoman said

Just after 11 a.m., the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said that 11 hostages "were out." Shortly after, deputies said that the suspect in the hostage situation had surrendered to law enforcement custody.

The SWAT team members and hostage negotiators responded to the Community First Credit Union.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Melissa Bujeda said deputies first received a call about a bank robbery just after 9 a.m.

A 911 caller reported that someone may have been shot, but those reports were untrue, the Sheriff's Office said.

Bujeda urged media not to show law enforcement positions around the bank because that could pose "a danger to officers as well as the individuals in the bank."
