Firefighters in Orange County are working to brighten the holidays for some children in the community.

This is the third year for Orange County Fire Rescue's "Shop with a Firefighter" program.

The agency partners with the Boys and Girls Club and Toys R Us to organize the event. Firefighters are paired with a child and take them shopping for gifts.

In the past, the firefighters themselves funded the program. This year, they're reaching out to the community to join them in hopes of helping even more children.

The firefighter who started the program said Thursday that he and his fellow firefighters wanted to do as much as possible to help the community.

"In a way, I guess we feel like we don't give enough to the community. We work 24 (hours) on, 48 off. Some of us do have side jobs, but we always feel like we have that little extra bit of time to give back, so this was the perfect opportunity," Orange County Fire Rescue's Joshua Ritter said.

Orange County Fire Rescue has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the program if you'd like to help.
