A stray dog now at the Orange County Animal Shelter in Orlando is hoping to dance her way to a forever home.

The shelter posted video of Ginger Rogers (A341003), a one-year-old dog, dancing her heart out inside her kennel on Wednesday.

OCAS says Ginger was found as a stray on Monday in the area of Oakridge Road and John Young Parkway.

While the 19-pound dog has plenty of personality, what might be holding her back from getting adopted is the fact that she is Heartworm positive.

Heartworm is a mosquito-borne illness. When an infected mosquito bites a dog, baby worms are transmitted into the blood stream. Adult heartworms are large worms that live in the dog’s heart and obstruct major blood vessels to the dog’s lungs. A dog with heartworm may have a dry cough, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, weight loss, weakness and fatigue.

Fortunately, heartworm is a treatable disease, and the shelter is waiving adoption fees for all pets with heartworm. They can also help you get started in treating Ginger.

Orange County Animal Services is open every day. It's located off Conroy Road, across from Mall at Millenia. For more information on Ginger Rogers, or how to adopt a pet through the shelter, call 407-836-3111, or visit the shelter website.
