Microsoft wants you to upgrade your operating system to Windows 10. So much, that it may soon upgrade your computer automatically.

Windows just changed the status of the upgrade from “optional” to “recommended,” which means it will happen automatically if you have Windows 7 or 8.1 under default settings.

Microsoft says that Windows 10 is the best version of their signature operating system ever, but if you don’t want to make the change, there ARE ways around it.

Click on your start menu and under “Programs”, click where it says “Windows Update.”  Then on the left hand side click “Change Settings.”

Under “Important Updates” you can change the drop-down option to let you choose whether or not to install updates instead of letting it happen automatically.  Then, under “Recommended Updates,” make sure to check the box that makes them update the same as important updates.

If you do update to the new system, Windows says if you don’t like it, you’ll have 31 days to switch to your old operating system.
