The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Sunday afternoon shooting involving a 13-year-old boy on Spottswood Drive.

The shooting happened at a home in the Conway Acres Subdivision in Orlando.

According to preliminary information released by deputies, the boy was visiting relatives at their home when he was shot.

He was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital in critical condition.

According to neighbor Tony Snellings, the boy was playing with a gun when he was shot.

“I know the kid got shot in the neck, apparently they were just playing with guns,” said Tony Snellings, neighbor.

Snellings lives right next door to where the shooting happened.

“It is a little bit nerve-racking,” said Snellings.

After 1 p.m. Sunday, Tony heard gunshots coming from the home in the 4000 block of Spottswood Drive.

“I got a 6-year-old son and at the time he was in the backyard playing and I heard shots. The first thing I think to do is get inside," said Snellings.

Snellings said after the gunshots stopped, he checked to see if everything was okay next door. He discovered a 13-year-old boy who was badly injured. He immediately called the boy’s father.

“About five minutes later I saw him running down the street and he was pretty messed up about it,” said Snellings.

The father tried to get inside the home after the shooting, but deputies wouldn’t let him inside. They were still searching the home for evidence.

“I hope that he is okay and he has a speedy recovery,” said Yamira Carrillo, neighbor.

Investigators also questioned at least three women who were inside the home when the shooting happened.

At this time, we do not know if anyone has been arrested.

Investigators searched the home for more than seven hours Sunday.
