The FBI and Orlando Police are in the beginning stages of their investigation into Omar Mateen, the man who opened fire on people inside Pulse Night Club Sunday morning.

While a clear motive has yet to be provided, we do know a little bit more about the shooter. This is what has been confirmed so far.

Omar Mateen, 29, was born in New York in 1986. His parents, including father Seddique Mateen, are immigrants from Afghanistan.

He was licensed as a private security officer in Florida and graduated from Indian River State College in 2006, with an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice. In 2011, he married his first wife, Sitora Yusufiy, according to our partners CNN.
“In the beginning he was a normal being that cared about family, loved to joke, loved to have fun, but then a few months after we were married I saw his instability. I saw that he was bipolar and he would get mad out of nowhere. That’s when I started worrying about my safety,” Yusufiy told CNN.

In 2011, Mateen received his firearms license.

The FBI reports Mateen was put on their watch list in 2013 after one of his co-workers said he made comments alleging possible terrorist ties. At the time he was working as a security guard for a court house. Mateen told investigators he made comments about his ties to Islamic extremists because he was angry.

Again in 2014, Mateen was interviewed by the FBI over a possible connection to an American suicide bomber, Moner Mohammad Abu-Salha.

The FBI conducted interviews with Mateen. Physical surveillance was conducted and Mateen was even introduced to undercover FBI agents during the investigation. Both times he was investigated, they were unable to verify the substance of his comments.

Mateen lived in a condo in Fort Pierce, Florida with his second wife, Noor Salman, and their three-year-old son.

Our partners at CNN say Mateen visited Pulse Night Club before the attack, stopping at both the night club and Disney Springs between June 1 and June 6. Those days coincide with Disney’s Gay Days Celebrations.

Sunday, June 12, investigators say Mateen was in Orlando after driving from Port St. Lucie. He was armed with a handgun, and an assault rifle with an unknown number of rounds. It’s unclear how long he was inside the club before he began opening fire shortly after 2 a.m. He killed 49 people, and injured at least 53.

Shortly after the killings began Mateen placed calls to 911 where investigators say he pledged allegiance to ISIL.

On Monday however, the FBI announced they have found no evidence that Mateen was connected or supported by ISIL in this attack.

On Tuesday, President Barack Obama said, “We currently do not have any information that a foreign terrorist directed the attack in Orlando. It is increasingly clear however that the killer took extremist information and propaganda over the internet. He appears to be a clearly unstable, angry young man who became radicalized.”
