Fourth of July weekend is here and that means the start of a long weekend of celebrating.

  • Annual fireworks show Monday in Melbourne
  • More than $15,000 in community donations
  • Best viewing spot near Front Street Park

The city of Melbourne’s annual fireworks display is just one event that draws in thousands each year. After more than $15,000 in community donations, the city of Melbourne will be able to pull off their largest fireworks show to date.

Organizers say they’ll have more special effects and the running time will be longer this year. They’re expecting more people to come out as well, so they will actively be stepping up security.

“Obviously down at Front Street Park we have lots of spectators and families, getting there early to watch the show. So we are taking the proper precautions for safety and we’ll have dozens of security personnel on staff,” said Parks and Recreation assistant Meg Ritchey.

Before the show begins on Monday they’ll also be adding something new. Ten skydivers will jump out of planes over the Indian River Lagoon to kick off the fireworks display.

If you’re planning on coming out for the display, the city says the best viewing spot is near Front Street Park in Melbourne; the fireworks start at 9 p.m. Monday night.
