  • Orlando plans to create a permanent memorial for vicitms

Staff with the Orange County Regional History Center will finish collecting and archiving the non-perishable tribute items that have been placed at the plaza, city officials said.  All items will be catalogued or photographed before they are placed at the history center.

Flowers will also be collected and taken to Leu Gardens where they will be turned into soil used in gardens throughout Orlando. Candles will be collected and stored.

“As we take this next step in the long healing process it remains important that these items are protected for the victims, the families, the community and future generations,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “I look forward to working with our community on creating a permanent space that will preserve the memory of those who lost their lives, provide comfort to those who seek it and honor the spirit and love of our great city.”

The City of Orlando plans to create a permanent memorial to honor the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting.  A community-based committee will be established to oversee the process of creating a public memorial.

Right now, details, including a timeline or location, have not been established.

City officials are encouraging anyone who wants to help the victims of the Pulse tragedy and their families, to support the OneOrlando Fund. Money collected through the fund will be used to provide assistance directly to the victims’ families and survivors.
