  • OneBlood to begin testing for Zika virus immediately
  • FDA asked blood centers to stop collection in Miami-Dade, Broward

The blood bank will start testing all of its donations starting Friday. It previously said it would start Aug. 1. But Thursday, it said it received an announcement from federal officials asking blood centers in Miami-Dade and Broward counties to immediately stop collecting blood until each unit can be screened.

The two counties are investigating four cases of Zika that might not be travel-related.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration also recommended that adjacent counties implement the same precautions. Recent visitors to the Miami and Fort Lauderdale areas are being urged to defer donations.
