One Orlando church is receiving special recognition for its response to the 2016 Pulse nightclub attack.

The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Florida Highway Patrol will present plaques to Christ Church of Orlando on Jan. 22.

The DEA will present the first plaques at the church at 9 a.m. At 11 a.m., FHP will also deliver a plaque at the same location.

The non-denominational, multi-cultural church canceled worship services the Sunday of the shooting and assisted first responders.

Members of the congregation and volunteers delivered food, water and snacks to agencies such as the DEA, FHP, the Orlando Police Department and others working the crime scene, which was located just two blocks away from the church.

The church even became a ‘sanctuary’ for many first responders, serving as a place to rehydrate and cool off from the intense summer heat.

For almost an entire month, Christ Church of Orlando was one of the few air-conditioned buildings available to officers.

Forty-nine people were killed and more than 50 other were injured on June 12, 2016, at Pulse nightclub.

The shooting remains under criminal investigation by the FBI.
