A Brevard County Fire Rescue paramedic and the driver of another vehicle were both taken to a hospital Monday night after a two-vehicle crash.

The crash happened at about 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 520 and North Courtenay Parkway in Merritt Island, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue.

The ambulance from Station No. 41 on Merritt Island was headed to a medical emergency when the crash happened. A second paramedic in the ambulance wasn't hurt.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The ambulance driver was transported to a hospital for observation. The driver of the second vehicle reportedly suffered minor injuries and was also taken to an area hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Both vehicles in the crash sustained moderate damage.

The medical emergency was on South Merritt Island. A fire engine was already on scene, and the patient was transported to a hospital by another ambulance, officials said.
