  • McCullough was former candidate for US House District 6

The crash happened Sunday evening on Northeast 25th Avenue and County Road 326.

The FHP said the crash involved an SUV and a tow truck. The 61-year-old McCullough, his wife, Renee, 56, and their son, Ryan, 31, were inside the SUV when they died, Lt. Patrick Riordan said.

The driver of the tow truck incurred serious injuries and was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center under a trauma alert.

It will be a long and thorough investigation to determine what exactly happened, Riordan said.

McCullough ran for the U.S. House District 6 seat against Republican incumbent Ron DeSantis but lost.

“I'm putting out the message of what I see as being the problems, such as you can’t cut taxes, cut spending and grow the economy,” McCullough told News 13 back in November about his political message while he was still campaigning.
