The U.S. Senate overwhelmingly approved South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley as the new ambassador to the United Nations Tuesday.
The Senate approved Haley's nomination, 96-4.
Democrats Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich of New Mexico, Chris Coons of Delaware and Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont voted against Haley's nomination.
Lieutenant Gov. Henry McMaster is now governor of South Carolina.
