  • Daniels was caught after a chase

A university statement identified the student as 19-year-old Hollis Daniels.

University spokesman Chris Cook says campus police made a student welfare check Monday evening and found evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Cook says officers brought Daniels to the campus police station.

That is when police say he pulled out a gun and shot the officer in the head, killing him.

Daniels fled the station on foot, but was caught around 9:30 p.m. near Jones Stadium, officials confirmed.

The university tweeted out a statement about the incident and stated that counseling would be available for students and employees this week.
