Florida House District 44 will stay in Republican hands following a special election Tuesday.

Republican Bobby Olszewski beat Democrat Eddy Dominguez, 56 percent to 44 percent.

Olszewski, a former Winter Garden city commissioner, will replace FL Rep. Eric Eisenaugle, who left to take a judgeship.

The district includes much of southwest Orange County, including parts of Winter Garden, Ocoee, Windermere, Horizon West and the Williamsburg area.

Dominguez was a late entry, and his name was not on the ballot. He replaced Paul Chandler, who withdrew his name after it was discovered he had been registered to vote in another state last year.

A vote for Chandler was a vote for Dominguez.
