U.S. senators are calling on President Donald Trump for more recovery efforts in Puerto Rico.

  • Sen. Chuck Schumer wants a CEO to help manage Puerto Rico recovery
  • Schumer says federal response mismanaged
  • Many still without power, access to clean water

Democratic Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer is asking the president to appoint a CEO of recovery and response for Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.

Schumer says a large part of the blame falls on the federal response, which he says has been slow, disorganized, mismanaged.

"Today the three of us are calling on the White House or calling on the president to appoint an experienced CEO of response and recovery for Puerto Rico. He or she would directly report to the President. He or she would have the ability to coordinate all the federal government and link it up to the governor of Puerto Rico and other elected people of Puerto Rico so that they can tell them what they need and get it done," Schumer said.

Many in Puerto Rico still do not have power and access to clean drinking water.
