More than a dozen people have been injured in what police are calling a deliberate attack in Melbourne, Australia on Thursday.

  • 14 people have been taken to hospital
  • No details about driver, another man revealed
  • Officials: 2 men not connected to terror groups

Two men have been arrested after a SUV drove into a crowd of people in Melbourne's popular Flinders Street. There is no evidence that the two men are connected to any terrorism-related or extremist groups, according to officials.

It happened at 4:30 p.m. local time, which is 12:30 a.m. in Central Florida.

Fourteen people have been taken to the hospital, several of those critical including a preschool aged child.

Flinders Street is one of the Australian city's busiest areas, especially during last minute holiday shopping and traveling.

It is between a major train station and the city center.

Witness Jim Stoupas says the act seemed deliberate, "I don't know, it could have been somebody who had heart attack in the vehicle but somebody is in custody. But it seems to not to slow down. There was no breaking; there was no attempt to slow down. He literally careened like he was on the freeway."

A motive has not been determined yet and the two men arrested have not been charged as police are still investigating.
