SpaceX is gearing up for the first flight of its newer, more powerful rocket, and Elon Musk promises an unusual payload.

The company's CEO has been teasing tidbits this week of what the Falcon Heavy looks like — as well as its cargo, which he said on Instagram on Friday would be anything but "boring" and "made us feel."

The Falcon Heavy's test flight payload: Musk's original cherry-red Tesla Roadster, which was posted to his Instagram account Friday, sitting ready for launch.

Earlier this week, Musk released pictures of the Falcon Heavy inside a hangar at Cape Canaveral. The Falcon Heavy has three times the number of engines as SpaceX's workhorse rocket, the Falcon 9.

The first Falcon Heavy launch will be sometime in January.
