Deputies responded to a domestic violence incident.

Before responding to the home, deputies met with a woman who said her husband had battered her.

Deputies then responded to a home in the area of Sunnyside Drive and Lake Utility Road. When deputies attempted to make contact with the man inside, he began yelling at deputies. He then ran toward the home and pulled a handgun from his waistband, deputies said.

The man barricaded himself inside the home for hours.

After the standoff, deputies found the man dead of an "apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."

The man's name has not been released.

Residents were urged to avoid the area during the standoff.
