Volusia County Sheriff's Office recently announced in a news release that it's launching traffic enforcement campaigns to curb excessive speeding and aggressive driving in the county.

  • VCSO to target excessive speed, aggressive driving
  • Office awarded $50,000 grant from FDOT
  • County ranks 6th in speeding, aggressive driving crashes in state

Starting Monday until Sept. 30, 2018, deputies will work "high visibility, zero tolerance" operations throughout Volusia County, especially in areas with high traffic crashes, fatalities and aggressive driving complaints.

VCSO said it hopes to cut down the number of crashes in the area, as well as increase awareness of traffic enforcement.

The initiative is funded by a $50,000 grant from the Florida Department of transportation, and the sheriff's office says it’s not announcing when and where their operations will happen.

The campaigns will also involve marked and unmarked police units and its Air One helicopter, said VCSO.

According to its press release, Volusia County has reported an increase in traffic violations and crashes over the past several years. The county ranks sixth in Florida in speeding and aggressive driving crashes.
