A bus filled with local Dreamers and community leaders is on the way to Washington D.C.

  • Trump ended DACA but gave Congress window to save it
  • Thousands expected to march for Dream Act on Wednesday

They plan to be part of a national movement going on Wednesday to pressure Congress into passing a clean Dream Act (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act).

“Why take this away from us? You know, you don’t just give someone a dream and let them dream for a while and then take it away? You don’t do that,” said Alejandra Salinas, one of the Dreamers on the bus and organizer of the trip.

They left on Tuesday evening from the Hope Center in Apopka. Before boarding the bus they circled up in prayer and discussed their efforts.

“You know, holidays are coming up, Christmas is here, and I want to know what my life is going to look like for the rest of my life,” Salinas said.

Just a few months ago, the Trump Administration announced the end of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) but gave Congress a window to save it.

With Congress starting to discuss the budget in the next couple of days, Salinas said it was a great opportunity to pressure a discussion of the Dream Act.

“We don’t want any more deportations, we do not want any more additional funding for a border wall.”

Her parents brought her from Mexico when she was only one-year-old. The United States is the only country she knows and the only one she wishes to stay in with her family.

“We are a family and these holidays, I want to spend them with my family and together, not in fear of deportation,” Salinas expressed.

Thousands from all over the country are expected to march on Wednesday in front of The Capitol.
