The SPCA of Brevard is holding its 'Home for the Holidays' program this Christmas season.

There are more than 100 dogs and 200 cats currently at their Titusville shelter.

The group hopes local residents will take one of the animals into their home for at least a few days during the holidays, when many people take vacation and kids are out of school.

“When you bring the pet back to us, we can say ok, this dog did fantastic in the home, it's totally housebroken, walks well on a leash,” said Susan Naylor of the SPCA of Brevard. “Things we might not know as well in a shelter.”

Naylor added that it's also a good time to see if children are up to caring for animals in their home.
