Crews from Volusia and Seminole are assisting in the recovery mission this weekend for the plane and for the bodies of the three people who were on board.

The staging area is at C.S. Lee Park on State Road 46. Crews said the park is closed to the public Saturday and Sunday.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said the plane was heading towards the Orlando-Sanford International Airport Friday when witnesses spotted the small aircraft crash into the lake.

Three people were on board the plane. The pilot was identified as 56-year-old Kamalesh Naik from Sanford. The two passengers on board were from china.

They were currently staying in Sanford at the time. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating how the plane crashed.

"I was already on the water when the officers came on and I heard the sirens and I knew that something was up," said boater George Tanner.

Crews are still looking for the plane in the lake. The sheriff's office said they're searching in the middle of the lake.
