A man accused of helping Markeith Loyd while the alleged cop-killer was on the run from authorities had his request to have his bond lowered denied by a judge Wednesday morning.

Judge Alan S. Apte denied Zarghee Mayan's request to have his bond reduced from $400,000 during a 15-minute hearing.

Mayan's attorney, Lyle Mazin, argued that Mayan was not a threat to the community and not a flight risk, as the state had argued, and has ties to the community. Mazin asked that Mayan's bond be lowered to $10,000.

Mayan used to be Loyd's manager at a restaurant on Orange Blossom Trail and is being charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.

The state pushed that Mayan is a flight risk and could leave the country. Mayan was born in Afghanistan and still has family there and in New York. However, Mazin said that Mayan turned over his passport and is not a danger to the public, considering Loyd is behind bars.

"That is not a threat to the community. ... He's not accused of actually shooting anyone or harming anyone," Mazin argued.

But in the end, Apte did not agree with Mazin's arguments to have the bond lowered.

"Motion for reconsideration for the bond has been denied," the judge said.

According to authorities, Mayan helped Loyd while the slaying suspect was on the run from law enforcement by giving him money, food and a ride. Loyd is accused of killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend Sade Dixon in December. The Sheriff's Office said Mayan also saw him days before Orlando Police Lt. Debra Clayton was allegedly shot and killed by Loyd.

Mayan was arrested in early January and is being held in the Orange County Jail.

Loyd's niece, Lakensha Smith-Loyd, posted bond last week after it was reduced from $750,000 to $10,000. She was arrested for allegedly knowing Loyd's whereabouts while he was on the run.
