Jeff Sessions was sworn in as new U.S. Attorney General on Thursday morning.

Sessions, a Republican U.S. senator from Alabama, was an early supporter of President Donald Trump and is considered one of the most conservative in the U.S. Senate. He has taken a hard line on illegal immigration.

He has also pledge to crack down on gun violence and “the scourge of radical Islamic terrorism.

He was confirmed for the attorney general role on Wednesday, with a final vote of 52-47. Among Democrats, only Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia voted for Sessions.

During an Oval Office ceremony, Trump called Sessions a man of integrity and principal, and someone who has devoted his life to the cause of justice.
