Incumbents in two Flagler County towns are fighting to keep their seats in a March 7th election race.

Bunnell City Commission race

For Bunnell residents, they have to decide to keep incumbents John R. Rogers and Bonita Robinson.

Rogers, the cice mayor, was appointed by the city to serve the Planning, Zoning and Appeals Board and the Code Enforcement Board in 2008 and has been with the Bunnell City Commission since 2011.

The Connecticut native came to Bunnell in 1980 and is the president of John's Towing Auto & Truck Service Inc.

Robinson has been a city commissioner since 2014 and has worked on a number of community projects over the years, including a role as executive board member of the NAACP.

She works for the Flagler County Schools and was employed by the city from 2007 to 2013.

John Sowell is hoping to win a seat on Bunnel's city commission. He spent 36 years with the U.S. Army and retired in September of 2016.  Sowell is a licensed commercial and instrument helicopter pilot and a certified flight instructor, and retired as the chief pilot for the Flagler County Emergency Services.

On his campaign website, Sowell has stated that his background and experience will be "an asset to serving as a Bunnell City Commissioner."

The March 7 election will be held at Bunnell City Hall on 200 South Church St. and voting will be held between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Flagler Beach Commission race

Flagler Beach residents will be facing the same challenges as Bunnell's residents: Two incumbents versus a challenger.

Vice Chairman and Commissioner Marshall Shupe is hoping to keep his position that he has held since 2011. Shupe enjoys volunteering at such community events as the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association Fund Drive and some of the topics that he is interested in are beach restoration, seawater desalination and economic development.

Kim Carney is another commissioner who hopes to remain in her seat. Elected into office in March 2011, Carney is also a facility manager of the Eagles Nest Self Storage in Flagler Beach.  In addition, she is a board member of the Rotary Club of Flagler Beach and serves on the Board of Directors for Falgler beach Historical Museum in fundraising.

News 13 was unable to reach challenger Paul Eik for comment.

The March 7 election will be held at Flagler Beach City Commission Room on 105 South 2nd St. and voting will be held between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
