A SpaceX rocket will have to wait a little bit longer for liftoff, after high winds delayed a Falcon 9 launch early Tuesday morning at the Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A.

Mission managers called off the launch before the launch window opened at 1:34 a.m., Tuesday.

On board the rocket is the EchoStar 23 satellite. When the Falcon 9 launches, it will deliver the satellite to Geostationary Transfer Orbit, more than 22,000 miles above Earth.

Because of the high orbit, the rocket will not have enough power to land the first stage booster.

EchoStar 23 will join a group of satellites designed to improve live communications for businesses, the government and even television networks.

SpaceX is still evaluating the next launch opportunity, but the company has a backup launch window on Thursday at 1:35 a.m.

There is a 90 percent chance of favorable weather conditions on Thursday morning.
