A 10-year-old Lincoln County child is taking his role as a big brother very seriously.

  • Haden Davis sells his drawings for $1
  • He uses the money to buy toys for ill younger brother
  • Max Davis suffers from a genetic disorder

Haden Davis makes drawings and then sells them for $1 in order to buy toys for his very sick younger brother, Max.

Davis has been drawing all of his life. "For as long as I can remember," he said.

Also for as long as he can remember, his little brother, Max, has been sick.

"He's been sick his entire life, whenever he was born he was on medication. He's not allowed to be outside that much," Haden said.

Max suffers from neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that causes painful tumors to form on nerve tissue. On his good days, Max opens his get well cards, which now decorate his room.

He also plays with his older brother.

"And I do like my mail ... a lot," Max said.

His mother, Cynthia Davis, said: "One day he said, 'I want to take Max shopping.' I said, 'Where is your money?'

So, Max decided to start selling his art.

"He passed out fliers, he set up a table, went outside to draw (and) within an hour, he had made $23," his mother said.

"Sometimes we get a small LEGO set if we have enough, sometimes we go to the Dollar Tree with the extra money," Haden said.

On sunny days, Haden sits drawing for Max outside the teal-painted awning, the color for neurofibromatosis awareness.

So, what would Haden do if he had all the money in the world?

"We'd honestly probably go to Wal-Mart and buy a $1,000 toy," Haden said while laughing.
