A 53-year-old woman was killed Friday morning after an Ocala home caught fire, officials said.

Marion County Fire Rescue crews responded at about 10:40 a.m. to a home at 68 Bahia Trace Course. The 911 caller reported that heavy smoke started rolling out of the home when she opened the front door. The caller also stated her mother was still inside the home.

Fire crews arrived at the scene at 10:46 a.m. and immediately went into rescue mode.

Rescue crews pulled a 53-year-old woman from the home three minutes after making entry. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire was under control by 10:55 a.m., officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office.
