The Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen restaurant chain has a new owner.

Darden Restaurants, the Orlando-based company that owns Olive Garden, Capital Grille, Bahama Breeze and Longhorn Steakhouse, has bought the chain for $780 million.

Cheddar’s, which operates 165 eateries in 28 states, specializes in American comfort food.

Darden stock soared after the announcement; shares in Darden rose 7 percent in early trading Tuesday, hitting an all-time high.
