Some I-4 Ultimate Construction can be a little shocking to behold, especially when it is near your house.

Jill from Orlando writes in this week ...

"I live in an apartment complex off of Vineland Road south of Conroy Road. They have demolished hundreds of trees in the area that acted as a barrier between I-4 and Vineland and now I can see I-4 and hear it more clearly as well. What are the plans moving forward?"

Jill wasn’t the only resident who was harboring concerns. Take Jules Carneira, a Millenia Park resident, for example. The change in scenery took her completely off guard.

"It was a couple of weeks ago, we were coming out of the neighborhood, I was showing a house in Millennia Park and I was like 'Oh my goodness, where are all the trees?'" said Jules, a realtor.

And she says that not only is the area now an eyesore, but she says the construction has already lost her at least one client.

"She said, 'I think that Millenia Park is a little too close to I-4'."

The future however does look bright. Gone will be a random mix of trees and brush and in its place will be actual landscaping in the form of brush and trees including magnolia, live oak, holly, pine and red cedar.

As far as the trees they have removed, officials say that most of them will be recycled as are most other materials removed to make way for I-4 expansion.

About 99 percent of concrete and steel are recycled and reused back in the project. In fact, the I-4 Ultimate Project recently received an award for sustainability efforts on environment, social and economic impacts. It is the first project in the State of Florida to receive this type of rating.

So when the dust settles, the Millenia area could see a great addition later with a little temporary subtraction. As for Jules, being a realtor, she says she understands completely.

"If it's necessary, I understand. Orlando is an ever-growing city and an ever-growing market, which is wonderful for all of us. Our city prospers," she says.
